“The Boxer” Cocktail by Jordan Sakai

Serving cocktails with character, Novela is a book-themed bar where classic literary references present themselves in new and intriguing ways. From the chromatically classified book collection, to the names of their house cocktails which are taken from characters in beloved literary works, Novela offers a compelling and elegant ambiance that juxtaposes classic with contemporary design.

The cocktail and punch programs are seasonally living, and expertly crafted by the talented bar staff.

Inspired by George Orwell’s Animal Farm , The Boxer, by Jordan Sakai, is named after the horse that represented the working class. So like the character, the drink is stiff, strong, and direct. Also apple and walnut seem rather like ingredients a horse would like.

The Boxer

• 1.5 oz Four Roses Bourbon
• .5 oz Arkansas Black Apple Jack
• .25 oz apple walnut simple syrup
• 2 dashes old fashioned bitters
• Pinch of citric acid

Stir all ingredients in a mixing glass, serve over large ice cubes in double rocks glass. Express an orange zest and discard, garnish with a cinnamon toasted apple chip on a pick.
