Prized in the whiskey world for its rarity and expressive character, Mizunara oak was selected for its unique ability to reveal new dimensions of flavor within the spirit. After extensive trials across both mashbills, the K yeast strain was chosen for its complementary spice—allowing Mizunara's sweeter, more nuanced notes to shine through. Throughout the finishing process, Master Distiller Brent Elliott pulled samples almost weekly—monitoring barrels with varying toast and char levels to track their progress and find the precise balance point before blending the final liquid. The result is a profile unlike anything else in the Four Roses lineup: surprisingly rounded and soft, layered with rich spiced vanilla and natural flavors not found in American oak.
